Apps for Change

Whether you're a beginner or a hardened veteran, technology and more specifically apps have paved the way to make the problems of yesteryear manageable. We've got apps for weight loss, heart rate tracking, food logging, restorative application, and even behavioral adaptation. Maybe one of these apps can assist you in taking your first step or for my veterans a bigger step.

MyFitnessPal

If you've never food logged before I guarantee there's something to be learned here. It's very normal for new clients to realize things like: "I cheat more often than I thought. Most of my foods are processed. I don't drink enough water throughout the day. I'm not getting enough protein." If you're not getting the results you want; regardless of how you feel about logging in, you need the data so you can figure out WHY you're not getting your results.

GoogleFit

I've preached in a few articles about the benefits of walking. Walking improves our heart, de-stresses us, ups our metabolism, and even boosts our focus. Setting a new walking goal and following through with a pedometer can be a short-term solution to feeling better quickly. Are you active enough every day? Also, have a lot of other fun features like respiratory analysis; check it out

Noom

If MyFitnessPal has opened your mind to the possibilities of improving your nutritional habits; Noom is a new (not free) app that allows you to log your food but also coaches you on the behaviors around those meals. It will give you a day-by-day goal setting and also educate you on ways to improve your log. If you found that your food log presented you with problems and are unable to get in contact with a health advisor or nutritional coach; this may be an option for you.

Instant Heart Rate

Don't have a heart rate monitor yet but want to confirm you're working hard enough in your exercise routine? This app allows you to press your finger to your screen and get a quick heart rate count. Very useful in cardiovascular training or circuit training.

Headspace

In a world where the average level of focus is 7 seconds and the levels of stress across the board are up; headspace provides your first steps into understanding the purpose and varieties of meditative training. I highly recommend this app to anyone regularly talking about stress or in general the burdens of the new age of technology or associated stresses with city life.
