Sleep Hygiene

Sleep is invaluable

Did you know your brain at night associates the light from your phone or ipad as the same light as from the sun? Did you know that also releases chemicals that keep you awake? There are a lot of things we neglect or don't realize when it comes to sleep hygeine.

Like most people I used to associate my periods of sleep deprivation like a bank. I miss 2 hours I owe 2 hours, much like debt at bank. But the reality is that's not true; because the time used during the sleep process isn't a bar we need to fill for energy; it's more of a cup we need adequate time to fully empty (grey matter).

For a variety of reasons including longevity of life, reduction of developing alzheimer's or dementia, and for overall quality of life. Taking a good hard look at your sleep habits every so often is invaluable. Ask yourself some hard questions and if you don't like your answers... perhaps it's time to reevalute your current sleep routine/regimen/hygiene. Here's a quick Check list on the most basic questions to ask yourself on is my bedroom ready for me to sleep in?

Are there any distractions on in your room? (this does not apply to white noise machines)

Is your room dark?

Is your room quiet?

Are you setting aside adequate time to sleep?

iff you're not getting adequate time at night, do you have napping opportunities you can take advantage of? (15-30mins is enough)

Is your room cool and comfortable?

Work on the basics and although it may not seem like a lot; one single change could vastly improve your sleep quality! Have you checked all the boxes above? comment down below.
